Our RV is only 33ft long. Imagine two grown adults and three animals all competing for personal space! Obviously, leaving our babies behind when we started this journey was not an option. So how do we make it work?
1. The dogs sleep on the floor or in their beds

We bought this bed at TJ Maxx and the boys LOVE it! They will either sleep in it individually or together. We have another smaller bed for Marley (the Chihuahua) under the table in the dinette area. This bed fits perfectly under our fridge and doesn’t take up a ton of floor space. The use of dog beds and keeping the dogs off the furniture is a good way to save space and create boundaries. We try to keep them off the furniture as much as possible because let’s face it, there’s barely enough room for the two of us on the couch and bed! However, they do love sleeping on the people furniture when we aren’t looking!

They also love getting their time outside to explore whatever new area we are in! When I can, I set up the hammock and let Marley relax with me when the weather is nice. He loves it!

2. The cat has her own “kitty condo”

We weren’t using the bunks once we went full time in the RV, so we decided to turn the bottom bunk into Ember’s very own kitty condo! When we first moved into the RV she was a little timid and would hide back in the cubbies beside our bed. Once I got her kitty condo set up, she perked right up! Kitty condo has food/water, a scratchable rug, scratcher, litter box, litter genie, and an air purifier. I clean her litter box almost every day and the air purifier really helps with the smell. Walking in here, you wouldn’t know we had a cat onboard. Also, she loves her little bed that we threw in there too!

The kitty condo is a great idea to provide a dedicated space for our cat!

3. Kitty Hammock

This is what has been a game changer! Ember loved the hammock that we had in the living room window back in our sticks and bricks home and I couldn’t bear to take it away from her. However, what we had was big, bulky, and would not work on the RV windows. This kitty hammock is PERFECT on the window above the dinette and she absolutely loves laying in it and sleeping the day away!

4. We embrace the tiny life!
Let’s face it, living in a 33ft RV is going to have it’s challenges when it comes to space. It is definitely an adjustment, but I wouldn’t trade this life for the world! We may be sacrificing some personal space, but what we get back in quality time, doggy kisses, and adventures makes it all worth it! Our dogs Max and Marley love being able to go outside in new places with all the new smells to sniff! And our camper kitty Ember still gets to lounge and look out the window watching all the birds and squirrels!
If you have animals, how are you adjusting to life on the road? What works for you? We want to hear from you! We are open to any and all suggestions because after all, we are no experts here! Just a couple of animal loving nomads embracing the RV life!
Until next time,
Wise Nomads
