We started our deep dive into full-time RV life by going back to the place that inspired us to go tiny in the first place. Cape Charles Tiny Livin’ is a beautiful tiny home community owned by Eric and Sylvia Hawkins and coincidentally it’s also where we got married. Our love story blossomed here and a spark was lit to place family and experiences over things and stuff. Our first night out of the home we’d been in for years was spent in the Stay Awhile tiny home on Eric and Sylvia’s property in Cape Charles, Virginia. Located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and only about an hour away from where we called home, we thought it was only fitting to go back for a night before reporting to our first work camping job in Williamsburg, VA.
The lush landscaping and adorable row of tiny homes draws you in to Cape Charles Tiny Livin’, but the cozy and practical use of space inside the tiny homes definitely makes you want to “Stay Awhile”. We chose to get married here not only because of the beauty of the venue, but also the most kind and welcoming owners we had met. Eric and Sylvia truly went above and beyond to make our special day amazing and truly memorable. Our photographer Ashley Marie Photography was the absolute best at capturing all the special moments of our micro wedding and we couldn’t have asked for a better photographer!

Coming back to Cape Charles Tiny Livin’ was such a wonderful experience and the perfect place to kick off our new journey! We spent one night with them before packing up the travel trailer and making our way to our first work camping position we will be at for a few months until the house officially sells. We ate some great Mexican food at a local restaurant and enjoyed the luxury of a full queen size bed and real shower before moving into the RV. We woke up the next morning and enjoyed our locally roasted coffee on the porch of the tiny home before heading out. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend a stay with them! 10 out of 10 stars!

It has now been a week since we stayed at Cape Charles Tiny Livin’ and almost a week since we started our first work camping job at a campground in Williamsburg, VA. I have been learning a lot about running the camp store, taking reservations, and checking in guests. Shane has been busy keeping the grounds sparkling clean and escorting guests to their RV sites, cabins, and yurts. We are loving the change of pace and will be here at least through Labor Day! Work camping isn’t for everyone, but we wanted to give it a try and see how it went while we were waiting on the house to sell. So far it’s been easy work and a cheap place to have as home base until the house sells and we can officially start our full time travel journey!
Until next time,
Wise Nomads
